Our December Pet of the Month will be celebrating her fifth birthday this month on the 21st. Napolia belongs to Anya Cardoso of the Woodhouse Law Firm and is a mixed bag of breeds. She’s mostly a Labrador Retriever with a little Golden Retriever and possibly Rhodesian Ridgeback mixed in. You know how retrievers like to swim? Well, not Napolia. Nope. She’s not a fan of water and hates to get wet. She does, however, like a good mud puddle.
Napolia was named by her formers owners who Anya believes might have been Italian or just really big fans of Italy. The Cordosos opted to keep Napolia’s name. Anya officially adopted Napolia from Best Friends Animal Lifesaving Center in June 2019. The Cardoso family had previously fostered her and her puppies. “She is very sweet and has very good manners with other people and dogs,” says Anya.
Napolia is a survivor. “She caught Distemper from some dogs that were rescued from Texas (where Distemper is rampant) and had to be in medical quarantine for 6 months before we could adopt her,” says Anya. “She, unfortunately, lost her three puppies, but she really wanted to live and luckily, Best Friends does everything in their power to save every dog that comes into their care. She fought long and hard and finally beat the disease. She is our little warrior and we are so thankful she made it. She is the best dog ever and we love her so much.”
