This month’s featured furry friend belongs to Lori Joyner of Living on the Edge. Asher is a very active 7-month-old German Shepherd who was named after one of the 12 tribes of Israel in the Old Testament. The Joyner’s got Asher when he was 8 weeks old.
He is a chewer of all things – not just toys. “When we go for walks, his new favorite thing is jumping in the pond in our neighborhood and splashing around in the water!” said Lori. Unfortunately, Asher’s jaunts to the ol’ swimming hole = wet, dirty pup = bath, which is not one of his favorite things to do.
“He’s the most affectionate dog my husband or I have ever had! Constantly up against us, just wanting to be touched. He follows me everywhere I go, even right behind me as I mow the lawn. He’s the happiest when my husband our boys and I are all together,” said Lori.
Her son likens Asher to a big cat. He wiggles around places and is able to curl up in the most unusual positions. He has a narrower build than the other shepherds the Joyners have owned, but he’s just as heavy weighing in at 64 pounds at 6 months. And he thinks he’s still small enough to be a lap dog.
According to Lori, “Asher” in Hebrew means Happy and Blessed. “It’s very fitting because he’s the happiest puppy and we are blessed to have him!”
