Gareth Ludeman joined MIS in 2017 as a member of our Help Desk support team. He has since moved up and now serves as an Escalations Engineer. In both roles, he consistently makes raving fans out of folks who call in for technical support. He is part of MIS’s South African team that solves a variety of IT issues that pop up for our clients. Outside of work, he is quite the sportsman and hopes to one day climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
He and his fiance live in the southern coastal town of Welcome Glen, Cape Town about a mile from False Bay to the east and a couple of miles from the South Atlantic Ocean to the west.
Tell us about your family
I live with my fiancè and we have an 8-month-old son, Kyle, who is the absolute cutest little guy ever. I also have two other sons who live with their mother. We have three dogs who are all crazy and get far too excited at suppertime.
What is your favorite food?
My fiance’s bean burritos. She knows this. Oooooh does she know this.
Name something on your bucket list.
I would love to watch Liverpool play a football game at Anfield one day.
What’s the craziest/funniest/most outrageous thing you’ve ever witnessed/done?
The craziest thing I have ever done is get chased by a herd of zebras in the middle of the night…fun times. Driving through Mozambique is a challenge in itself as well, but seeing about 30 whales breaching over and over the next morning was totally worth it, and one of the most amazing things I will ever get to see.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’m very sporty and will do just about anything when I’m feeling up to it
Favorite book?
I can’t pick just one…..I am an avid reader and read as often as I can.
Favorite ice cream?
My fiance makes a delicious vanilla ice cream with ginger biscuits. Sometimes she makes brownies and puts them in there instead. She uses this against me too. Devil incarnate.
Favorite quote?
“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education” – Mark Twain
Tell us a little bit about what you do each day.
I wake up and immediately start looking after Kyle. My fiancé and I both work from home, so with an 8-month-old in these times one of us is always looking after him. During that time, Kyle and I try to get up to as much mischief as possible without actually driving her crazy. After my shift starts I concentrate on the help desk for the rest of the day and use my lunchtime to say good night to Kyle. All of this is very rewarding.
What’s the most fun thing about your job and why?
I enjoy solving problems, I’ve always enjoyed a challenge and it feeds into that.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
I would like to actually meet the clients, so hopefully, I can come to the United States and visit soon.
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
Anything and everything. We try to get out as often as possible with Kyle so he can experience as much of the world as he can right now in Covid times. We go hiking, swim, read, play video games and relax. We have a very close-knit group of friends and we get together as often as possible as well. They all dote on Kyle. He loves the attention.
